Electrohydrodynamic‐enhanced internal pipe flows from a One‐Dimensional Turbulence perspective

چکیده
The One-Dimensional Turbulence (ODT) model is applied for the evaluation of internal pipe flows subject to electrohydrodynamic (EHD) forces. ODT formulation presented here incorporates effects electrostatic potential energy transfer kinetic flow due EHD instabilities in presence a corona discharge. Results integral quantities such as skin friction coefficient Cf and Nusselt number Nu are obtained from simulations compared available experimental data [1,2]. results demonstrate capabilities simulating flows.

Patterned turbulence and relaminarization in MHD pipe and duct flows
We present results of a numerical analysis of relaminarization processes in MHD duct and pipe flows. It is motivated by Julius Hartmann’s classical experiments on flows of mercury in pipes and ducts under the influence of magnetic fields. The simulations, conducted both in periodic and non-periodic settings, provide a first detailed view of flow structures that have not been experimentally acce...
متن کاملFolded edge of turbulence in a pipe.
The results of an experimental investigation into the threshold boundary between laminar and disordered pipe flow are presented. Complex features have been uncovered using a highly refined experimental approach where an intermediate periodic state forms an integral part of the transition sequence. In accord with the suggestions produced by a numerical investigation, the boundary is found to be ...
متن کاملIntermittency and rough-pipe turbulence.
Recently, by analyzing the measurement data of Nikuradze [NACA Tech. Memo No. 1292 (1950)], it has been proposed [N. Goldenfeld, Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 044503 (2006)] that the friction factor, f , of rough-pipe flow obeys a scaling law in the turbulent regime. Here, we provide a phenomenological scaling argument to explain this law and demonstrate how intermittency modifies the scaling form, ther...
متن کاملTurbulence Transition in Pipe Flow
Pipe flow is a prominent example among the shear flows that undergo transition to turbulence without mediation by a linear instability of the laminar profile. Experiments on pipe flow, as well as plane Couette and plane Poiseuille flow, show that triggering turbulence depends sensitively on initial conditions, that between the laminar and the turbulent states there exists no intermediate state ...
متن کاملDevelopment length of laminar magnetohydrodynamics pipe flows
In this article, a laminar magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) developing flow of an incompressible electrically conducting fluid subjected to an external magnetic field is considered. The aim of the study is to propose a correlation for computing the development length of the laminar MHD developing flow in a pipe. A numerical approach is considered to solve the problem. In the first step, the numerical...
